June 2011 trucking conditions
The slowdown in May reversed in June, translating to a severe driver shortage, according to the latest Randall-Reilly MarketPulse survey. More than 49% of carriers identified driver availability as their No. 1 concern — a sharp increase over the 35% reporting drivers as the top challenge in May. Freight pricing was a distant second worry at 14.3%. Other highlights:
• Nearly two-thirds of executives expect market conditions to be either better or much better in six months; only 1.5% think business will be worse.
• June clearly was a month for change, for good or ill. More than 75% reported conditions were better or much better than in May, while nearly 11% said conditions were worse or much worse.
